LG has stepped up its battle with arch rival Samsung to be the global leaders of next generation televisions with the recent release of their OLED TVs in South Korea.
Great news for Seoul residents but what if you are UK based? Well you’ll be pleased to know that OLED TVs will soon be available a lot closer to home at Simply Electricals’ Bolton and Rawtenstall retail stores. The exact date is yet to be confirmed but sources say it will be in March at the latest.
Simply’s Sales and Marketing Director Michael Gilmore was pleased with this announcement. “I’ve been reading a lot about OLED TVs over the past few months so it’s great to see them finally hit our shores. The technology they use is amazing and their picture quality is set to raise the bar for all new TV releases. When high definition TV was first introduced there was an instant wow factor but razor-thin OLED screens are set to leave people speechless – they really are that good.”
OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TVs display their pictures using a superthin self-illuminating display panel. As they are so thin, they can be used to display pictures around solid, bulky objects and experts are predicting a new generation of “bendy” gadgets to be unveiled later this year. Smaller OLED screens are already in use in some smartphones and handheld consoles.
Michael added, “4K technology, AKA Ultra HD, is set to be the next big thing offering a resolution four times that of current 1080p HD screens. However, I can see the OLED screens being more popular due to a richer quality display. For many years LG and Samsung played second fiddle to their Japanese rivals but are now leading the way and setting the standards in television technology.”
South Korean consumers can currently order the 55 inch 55EM9700 via one of the nation’s 1400 LG stores but will not receive the sets until February.
