Sony Reader Wi-Fi: New Kid on the Block

Sony is soon to launch its EBook reader called PRS-T1 to take on Kindle and Nook in the EBook reader segment. Not many are aware of the fact that it was Sony that was the first major player to launch an eBook reader, even before Kindle and Nook arrived on the scene. The reader has many new features and is also reasonably priced to lure consumers. But will it be able to upstage a coup to capture the market outside Japan? Only time will tell. PRS-T1 is a long and slim device that also weighs small (5.9 ounces). At 6.9 inches, the reader is easy to carry as it slips into trouser and jacket pockets. PRS-T1 measures 6.8X4.3X0.35 inches that makes it ultra slim reader. It is packed with 1 GHz of processor from Intel and boasts of built in Wi-Fi. It has 2 GB of internal memory that can be expanded using micro SD cards. This memory is enough to store around 1200 eBooks. The device has a 6 inch screen with a resolution of 600X800pixels. The display is quite bright and the feature of pinch to zoom makes it easy to read even for seniors.

Sony Reader Wi-Fi has a strong battery that allows reading of up to 5 weeks on a single charge. The reader has 2 English dictionaries and 10 more other language dictionaries that are embedded. The reader has the liberty to customize the fonts of which there are 6 sizes. The reader supports PDF and many other txt formats including Microsoft Word. The reader, besides being able to read text also allows users to read images in JPEG, BMP, GIF, and PNG. Music lovers can play back audio files in MP3 and AAC formats. This is one bonus feature that is not found in other eBook readers. This means that users can listen to music while reading books which is a new concept in itself.

Sony has allowed the liberty to use fingers on the touch screen as well as a stylus to take notes and also for highlighting. There is free access to library book downloads provided the user has a valid library card.
