Top 5 Free Social Networking Applications for Apple iPhone and iTouch

Apple iTunes store is flooded with Free and Premium applications of different categories. Recently Social Networking websites have seen tremendous growth in their user base and as a result Facebook is the second mostly used website. There are several iPhone and iTouch applications built for Social Networking sites. Some of them are having free as well as premium version. I have tried some of the free ones and presenting the Top 5 Social Networking Applications for Apple iPhone and iTouch.

1: Skype

Millions of people all around the world use Skype everyday to make free calls to their friends, family and workmates. And now, this fantastic programme is available on the iPhone. The Skype app allows you to make free calls over both 3G and Wi-Fi meaning you will probably never have to pay for a call again. The app has a beautifully designed, easy to use interface which shows your contacts list as soon as you sign in, you can then call or even chat with any of these contacts simply by clicking their username and selecting the option you want. With this fantastic app you could be in a call for hours on end and it won’t have cost you a single cent, and the best part of it all is that this app is available completely free from the app store.

2: Facebook

If you like to keep in touch with your friends on a day to day basis like most of us do then you will probably be familiar with Facebook. Facebook is one of the world’s most well known social networking Websites allowing you to easily keep contact with all of your buddies. Now with the facebook app for the iPhone you can keep in touch wherever you are, whether you’re on a long road trip or just on your way to work. With just a touch of a button (or a screen even) you can post comments, wall posts, and messages and even open an instant messaging chat with any of your buddies. The interface of this app is well thought out and extremely intuitive. Once logged in it will direct you to your News feed, showing you all of the recent posts of your friends throughout the day. From there you will have the option to do pretty much anything else you could wish to do. The latest version of the app also supports push notifications, this means you can receive a push notification every time someone posts you a message, a wall post and many other things, and you don’t even have to launch the app. This app is also available free of charge from the app store.

3: eBuddy

The eBuddy app for iPhone allows you to login to pretty much any instant messaging client available. The app supports Windows Live, Yahoo, Facebook, AIM, Gtalk and many other types of accounts. If you’ve used eBuddy.com before on your PC or Mac then you will be familiar with the layout of this app but if not don’t panic. The app is designed very well and doesn’t really take any time to figure out how to use. When you run the app you will be given an array of different account types that you can login to. Once logged in it will show your buddy list for that account and as with the Skype app you can then chat with any one of them by simply tapping on their username. This app can be used pretty much anywhere and as well as working over 3G and Wi-Fi, it also seems to do a good job over 2G and can sometimes work with even slower connections. This app is available free of charge from the app store but if you like the app and want even more features then there if a paid version available called eBuddy Pro. This version of the app has many other features such as the ability to set your display picture and send pictures to other buddies. It also has many different themes available to make the app feel more personal. I would highly recommend that you get this app and then if you like it, which I’m sure you will, get the paid version as the extra features are really worth the money.

4: Myspace Mobile

MySpace is probably the most well known social networking website in the world and it comes as no surprise that there is now an app available for the iPhone. The app, as you would expect does pretty much everything you could need it to. You can check your MySpace Mail, add friends, leave comments, send messages and much more. The app also gives you the ability to add photos to your profile directly from your iPhone, wherever you are. It gives you the option to either upload a photo you’ve already taken or use the iPhones built in camera to take a new one. As with most of my top 5 social networking apps the interface is very intuitive and even the most inexperienced user should be able to pick up the basics quite quickly. Once again this app is available for free from the app store and is a must have app for almost every iPhone.

5: Twitterific

The last couple of years has seen the rise of the popular social networking website Twitter.com. Today twitter is one of the most well known social networking sites in the world and it is now available for the iPhone. There are many different Twitter apps for the iPhone but Twitterific is probably the best one I have used. The overall look and feel of the application is beautiful featuring a black background with white writing. Once logged in it displays all the most recent Tweets from the people you are following. There are options at the bottom of the app to refresh the page, post a new Tweet and more. They really have thought of everything you could need to do in this app and then set it out in an easy to use manner. If your eyesight isn’t very good or if you just don’t want to be squinting at your iPhone there is an option in the top right hand corner of the app to make the text either bigger or smaller. I’m sure you will agree that this is a simple but much needed feature and really does make the whole experience a lot easier on the eye. This app is available free of charge from the app store and if you are a regular Tweeter then this is a definite download for you.
